Even during this extremely challenging time of social distancing, our friends at Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium keep finding creative ways to bring fun to campers.
Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium is a non-profit organization designed to support kids and families affected by childhood cancer by offering enriching and fun experiences, and letting kids just be kids. Their cornerstone success is due to the hands-on experiences they provide, that campers know and love. So with Covid-19 keeping us physically away from each other, they worked their special kind of magic and found a digital way to gather Around the Campfire.
And Magicana was invited along to join in the fun.
Through a Zoom meeting, program specialists developed a wonderfully interactive event, where the campers were invited to join a magical journey. Along the way, the met up with creatively-crafted wizards, fairies and centaurs, and campers were encouraged to use their brooms and other magical treasures, stashed in their own “magic bags.”
The final destination was “bumping into” an old and wise magical wizard (aka Magicana’s artistic director, David Ben). David the Wizard popped up onto the campers’ screens with his nose buried in a magic book after campers figured out the magic password. Delighted with their arrival, David the Wizard offered to show campers some wonderful eye-popping sleight-of-hand magic.
It was great to “peek from the curtains” to catch a glimpse of the campers both participating and watching the magic. To see eyes light up, and smiles grow widely across their happy faces… well, there is no greater magic, is there?
As the digital journey ended, we were reminded that there is always magic to be found. Thank you, Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium, for sharing wonder with us.
