The Allan Slaight Awards recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to the art of magic, and we could not be happier to celebrate the six individuals who were selected for this extraordinary year. Congratulations, once again, to the 2021 Allan Slaight Award recipients: John Gaughan, Helder Guimarães, David Sandy and Lance Rich, Billy Kidd and Jonah Babins.
The Slaight Family Foundation established the awards in 2015 to raise the awareness of magic as an art, and to celebrate the work of extraordinary individuals and organizations within its community. This year marks the seventh anniversary of the awards and we reflect with awe: The foundation has given away an incredible $350,000 to recognize outstanding achievements in the pursuit of the impossible.
This contribution by the Slaight family also reflects an investment in magic, one that generates growth and innovation—and, perhaps, even a reimagining of what magic can mean, and what it can do. We have seen over the course this challenging year, that magic can bring out the best of a community.
We give our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Slaight family, particularly to Allan Slaight and to his son Gary Slaight, for their unwavering support toward magic. The family’s mission, which includes furthering and fostering the arts, is deeply appreciated, but the singling out of magic is especially meaningful.
With a new year of magic well on its way, we look forward to learning more about emerging talent, interesting and innovative performances and of course, creative secret sharers. If you see such wonders, be sure to let us know! The awards nominations will open at the end of this calendar year.
Thank you for joining us this week. We cannot wait to bring you another year of award celebrations next year!
