For a sneak preview of Steve Cohen’s talk with David Ben in Luminato’s Lunchtime Illuminations (to be held on Wednesday, June 19 @ noon), the Millionaire’s Magician talks about the similarities between a great magic performance and an intimate and well thought-out culinary experience.
The parallels between the two are rooted in the way that interest and wonder is manifested and maintained within each trick/meal. Cohen draws similarities between the structure of a live performance and a meal: there is a beginning (appetizer), middle (main entree) and end (desert). Furthermore, he emphasizes the essentiality of smooth transitions between magic feats and meals: just as a chef would concoct a fixed menu according to the synergy of their flavour profiles, a magician would incorporate magic feats into his/her act using seamless transitions.
