MCW - Guests of Honor
With the 44th Magic Collectors Weekend only two months away, we are pleased announce our Guests of Honor for the Weekend—William (Bill) Kalush and Michael (Micky) Hades.
It may be trite to say, but it is true. With accomplishments so rich, and spanning so many decades, our Guests of Honor need little introduction. Both, in many ways, have changed the course of magic history, particularly for magic collectors and historians.
Although Bill Kalush is a dedicated practitioner of sleight-of-hand, having studied under Carl Mainfort, Robert Stencil, Brother John Hamman and Joe Crist, his more recent passion, first triggered by a suggestion from Ricky Jay to focus on original research in the history of magic, may be his most enduring. A dedicated researcher, writer and publisher—particularly of early magic history—Bill has travelled the globe, forming special relationships, and acquiring rare literary works to assist him in his study. More significantly, he has selflessly made his collection accessible to others through his groundbreaking foundation, the Conjuring Arts Research Centre (CARC) in New York City.
Micky Hades, when it comes to collecting and disseminating magic history, is a pioneer. Born in 1926 in rural Alberta, Canada and orphaned at an early age, Micky displayed an innate curiosity for all things magic, and the self-reliance and strength of character to pursue his passion with vigor. A performer, magic builder, author, publisher, organizer, collector and, most of all, mentor to scores of magicians, Micky Hades has touched the lives of magicians and collectors throughout the world.
We are thrilled to recognize their many achievements.
