MCW - Hitting the Road

The Magic Collectors Weekend is fast approaching, so to help you finalize your travel plans, here are some additional details about the conference schedule.

The MCW registration desk opens on Thursday, May 25 at 3:00 PM at the Delta hotel. Delegates will be able to pick up their registration kits at this time. Although the official conference programming begins after dinner, at 8:00 PM with presentations from our Guests of Honour, we will be screening short films of various performers we have recently digitized. These films will be shown in rotation in the meeting room between 3:00 and 6:00 pm for those interested.

We have also set space aside during 3:00 and 6:00 pm for a Swap Meet. Any attendee can bring their wares to display using the space provided at no additional charge. Please note that this space is not secured and all material should be packed up afterwards and should not be left unattended. There will be a wine and cheese reception immediately following the presentations by our Guests of Honour on Thursday evening.

Programming resumes Friday morning at 10:00 am with four presenters on the bill. We will break for lunch around 12:00 noon and then return at 2:00 pm to hear four more presentations. We break for dinner and then return for 8:00 pm to hear from three other presenters.

On Saturday morning programming shifts to the McCord Museum (literally around the corner from the Delta). We have four presenters scheduled between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. The afternoon is open for attendees to visit Illusion: The Art of Magic at the museum, and to enjoy guided tours of other areas of the museum ordinarily off-limits to regular visitors.

We reconvene at the hotel at 8:00 pm for our evening show—and, we are pleased to announce, the presentation of the Allan Slaight Awards, Recognizing Outstanding Achievement in Pursuit of The Impossible. The MCW will close with a dessert reception immediately following the evening show.

There is no programming scheduled on Sunday, May 28th

Although the Weekend is packed with activities, there are large blocks for lunch and dinner, and many of Montreal’s finest attractions are a short walk or cab ride from the hotel. As the city will be abuzz celebrating the 50th anniversary of Expo 67, the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada, and the 375th anniversary of Montreal we encourage you to plan and to take some time to enjoy this historic city. The hotel has a list of nearby restaurants and nearby attractions so you can begin investigating your options.
