Lifetime Achievement Award 2020

What a week it has been! To close out the 2020 Allan Slaight Awards, we are so pleased to announce that JIM STEINMEYER is the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

This award recognizes the exceptional commitment to magic by the dedicated efforts of an individual over a lifetime, and comes with a prize of $15,000 and an engraved iPad to commemorate the occasion—courtesy of the Slaight Family Foundation. Past recipients include, Johnny Thompson, Ton Onosaka, Max Maven, Dr. Edwin Dawes and Juan Tamariz.

Even if we listed it all, it’s still near impossible to comprehend. Jim Steinmeyer’s extraordinary achievements in advancing the art of magic is staggering. Teller said it best in The New York Times, in 2003, when he wrote that, Jim is a “celebrated ‘invisible man’—inventor, designer and creative brain behind many of the great stage magicians of the last quarter-century.”

Designer, inventor, writer, consultant, all-around creative genius—Jim  Steinmeyer has spent a lifetime enriching magic in every possible way. He has pushed the art far beyond the barriers of possibility, and has elevated magic to a whole new experience of exquisite wonder.

Watch our video above to learn more about Jim’s astonishing career in magic.

Our special thanks to Elizabeth and Richard Kaufman and to Bill Taylor for their contributions toward creating this video clip.

And, with that...

We now conclude the 2020 Allan Slaight Awards.

This has been one memorable year. While we have faced many difficult challenges during this historic time, we remain grateful to the Slaight Family Foundation—especially to Allan Slaight and to his son Gary Slaight—for their continued commitment to recognizing magic as an art, and for celebrating it with these unique awards.

Congratulations to each of the 2020 Allan Slaight Award recipients. It has been a complete joy to highlight and share your exceptional work and contributions to magic.

Our final thanks goes to you! Thank you for joining us and for supporting our recipients. It was a great journey to share—but, of course, without you, there is no magic! We hope you will keep an eye out, and follow along again next year!
